Trained at a very young age by his father, Abe Tsunematsu, he perpetuated and developed a style originating from Tsuchiyu, enriched with Aone and Zao Takayu influences. Active from the Taishō era until the end of the Heisei era, he produced kokeshi continuously, actively participating in their post-war boom. A recognized and respected artisan, he passed on his knowledge to several disciples, including his eldest son Abe Shinya. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 88.

Aesthetic Details:

This kokeshi features an expressive face typical of Atsumi, with large round eyes bikkuri-me びっくり目 that give it a lively and endearing presence.
