Explore the refined aesthetic of Japan during the Edo period with this hand-crafted Inuyama-yaki (犬山焼) ceramic plate, made in the Inuyama (犬山) region, near Nagoya. This rare and regional type of production is known for its natural glazes and its vibrant yet poetic decorations.

Estimated to be from the late Edo period (江戸時代後期), this piece features a typical decoration combining:

    • Maple leaves (紅葉 / momiji) in red, turquoise blue, and green, symbols of Japanese autumn,
    • Touches of turquoise and red pigments, evoking leaves scattered by the wind,
    • A central medallion ringed in green, hand-painted in a stylized geometric pattern,
    • A transparent crackled glaze (貫入 / kannyū), a sought-after effect in ancient Japanese ceramics.

    🦝 Our opinion:

A rare Inuyama-yaki plate, exuding the spontaneity of late Edo folk art. We love its natural crackled glaze and its vibrant autumn colors and embossed momiji leaves. It is ideal for a wabi-sabi presentation of small dishes, or to display as a raw and authentic art object.
