    🍶 Detailed description:

    Decorative porcelain plate in Kutani-yaki (九谷焼) style, produced in the Kaga region of Japan around 1925–1935, at the turn of the late Taishō and early Shōwa eras.

    Hand-painted with great refinement, this piece depicts two figures in court attire—likely an aristocrat and his young servant or page—in front of a fenced garden blooming with chrysanthemums, an imperial symbol.

    The left side of the decoration features a small Japanese bird (uguisu) perched on plum (ume) and cherry (sakura) branches. The flowers are delicately rendered, some created with slightly raised white enamel, applied with a brush, demonstrating excellent technical mastery.

    The piece is enhanced with geometric textile motifs, fine gilding (kinrande technique), and a subtle balance between narrative decoration and floral ornamentation.

    The reverse of the plate is adorned with stylized pine branches, a symbol of longevity, and signed in red with the characters 九谷 (Kutani), a traditional mark of the region's workshops at that time.

    A rare and poetic piece, blending pictorial tradition with artisanal finesse. We particularly love the scene inspired by the imperial court and the beautiful bird on its ume branch.

    This plate is typical of the refined aesthetic of the late Taishō / early Shōwa period, at a time when Japan preserved the legacy of the Meiji era while perfecting the art of decorative porcelain.
