    📋 Characteristics

    • Origin: Japan, found in Hyōgo prefecture.
    • Period: Estimated Shōwa.
    • Material: Natural wood lacquered and hand-painted (urushi)
    • Motifs: Golden Daruma, red plum blossoms, silver fan with pine and bamboo decoration
    • Dimensions: Ø ~12 cm
    • Content: Sold as a pair
    • Condition: Very good vintage condition, the lacquer is well-preserved and shiny. 📌 On one of the plates: a visible chip on one edge (cf. photo) and a small snag on the opposite edge.

    Elegant and full of symbols, these two small, round, hollow plates (直径約12cm) most likely date from the Shōwa 昭和 period. Made of lightweight lacquered and hand-painted wood (漆塗り / urushi nuri), they feature a stylized Daruma 達磨 motif, an emblematic figure of Zen perseverance, adorned with red plum blossoms (梅 / ume), floating above a folding fan 扇子 / sensu, decorated with pines 松 / matsu and bamboo 竹 / take, two symbols of longevity and wisdom.

    The deep black surface offers a beautiful sheen, typical of traditional Japanese lacquerware.
