    ✨ Description

    This chawan is a handcrafted piece from the Muryōkōin kiln (無量光院), a workshop whose name directly references the infinite light in the Buddhist tradition of Amida Nyorai — often adopted as a mark by artisans connected to tea or meditation.

    The bowl features a flared and understated shape, seemingly inspired by the Ido-gata (井戸形) style, famous for its rustic simplicity and silent presence. The profile is ample and natural, while the foot — cleanly cut and left raw — reinforces this impression of being rooted in the material. The whole evokes a contemporary interpretation of the Ido chawan.

    The matte white glaze is covered with pitted surface effects revealing the dark stoneware, creating a subtle organic rhythm to the eye and touch. These natural irregularities give the piece an almost mineral dimension, between melting snow and bare dark earth. No drips, no overload: a just, minimal gesture.

    Under the bowl, a hand-incised seal. It visually evokes the kanji 心 (kokoro) — "heart" or "spirit" — sometimes used as a seal by self-taught or independent potters, committed to an introspective practice of tea.

    The original wooden box (共箱) is hand-calligraphed:
