    This pair of traditional Japanese kokeshi dolls brings together two emblematic styles from Tohoku: Togatta and Yamagata/Sakunami. Each piece is signed by a recognized artisan, demonstrating authentic craftsmanship and a distinct regional aesthetic.

    • Style : Togatta (遠刈田系)
    • Origin : Miyagi Prefecture, Japan

    About the artisan :
    Born in 1935, Ogasawara Nobuko began producing kokeshi around 1970, following in the footsteps of her husband, Ogasawara Yoshio. She is known for her meticulous paintings and her respect for the traditions of the Togatta style.

      • Concentric red bands at the neck and base
      • Black chignon hairstyle with red flowers around, typical of the Yamagata style

    About the artisan :
    Born in 1918 and passed away in 2015, Kobayashi Seijirō was trained by his father, Kobayashi Kichisaburō, in the founding lineage of the Yamagata style. He is recognized for his faithful reproductions of ancient kokeshi and his influence on the evolution of the Yamagata/Sakunami style.
