A pair of handcrafted Japanese cups, meoto yunomi (夫婦湯呑), crafted in the Hagi-yaki (萩焼) style, famous for its soft glazes, fine crazing kan’nyū (貫入), and understated rustic appearance. The rosy beige, orangey-brown hues and the small visible inclusions in the clay give these pieces a very warm presence. The cut foot wari-kōdai (割高台) is reminiscent of traditional Hagi-yaki forms.
Meoto yunomi (夫婦湯呑) are couple's cups: traditionally in two slightly different sizes, they symbolize domestic harmony, daily tea sharing, and the bond between two people.

The Touryu-an kiln, located in Hagi in Yamaguchi prefecture, is part of the history of Susa-yaki, a ceramic tradition once linked to the Masuda family, high officials of the Hagi domain. Today, the workshop perpetuates this heritage through traditional methods, expressive clays, and glazes passed down through generations. It is currently led by Dōsen 14th generation, guardian of this expertise.
🦝 Our opinion
A beautiful pair of Hagi-yaki yunomi, rustic yet luminous and delicately irregular. The rosy beige and warm brown tones are superb, and the cut foot adds a lot of character. As meoto yunomi, they are perfect for a couple, a wedding gift, a relationship anniversary, or simply for sharing Japanese tea daily!
