Title: 富嶽三十六景 千住宿遊廓より富士を望む (Fugaku Sanjūrokkei – Fuji viewed from the pleasure district of Senju) – Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji.

Origin: Japan, found in Kyoto Prefecture.

    Subject:

In the foreground, a feudal lord's procession enters a post station. Its vanguard is about to stop at a tea house.
At the time, lords subject to dual residence (in the capital and in their fief) traveled with a large entourage – from one hundred to two thousand people.
The samurai, in blue uniform, wear their two swords at their waist (a symbol of their rank) and, on their shoulder, their firearm in a red scabbard.

In the background, behind a wooden palisade, stands the pleasure district of Senju, with its rows of brothels.
In the center, two seated peasant women observe the procession.
The harvested fields and the snow cover on Mount Fuji indicate an autumnal scene.

Marks: Red stamp Bijutsusha and mention of supervision by the Tokyo National Museum on the reverse.

Condition: Excellent condition. Vibrant and contrasting colors, intense Prussian blue characteristic of Shōwa prints.

    🦝 Our opinion:

A superb Shōwa re-edition that retains all the graphic power and narrative richness of the 1831 original.
The gaze wanders between the lively scene of the procession and the unchanging Fuji, creating a striking contrast between human movement and the serenity of nature.
An ukiyo-e classic that captures both the history, culture, and aesthetics of Edo Japan.
