This vintage 100% brocaded silk haori 羽織, a traditional Japanese kimono jacket, is captivating with its beige background and salmon pink, nuanced with ivory and silver touches. Its decoration takes you on a journey along the Tōkaidō, between Edo (former Tokyo) and Kyoto, through four landscape insets dedicated to Edo 江戸, Kyoto 京都, Yui 由井, and Yaizu 焼津. All around, Japanese waves animate the silk with elegance.
🔶 Exterior Pattern
The fabric combines a nami 波 wave pattern with four types of scenes inspired by the world of ukiyo-e 浮世絵 prints. Edo and Kyoto appear through bridges and architecture, while Yui evokes a landscape with a view of Mount Fuji, and Yaizu a coastal scene with a cliff, sea, and boats. The brocade and silver threads give the details a superb appearance.
Interior Lining
The lining reveals an ivory champagne rinzu 綸子 silk, with a tone-on-tone decoration of birds, probably peacocks kujaku 孔雀, and stylized kumo 雲 clouds. This almost secret decoration contrasts with the exterior landscapes and brings an additional richness to the garment, beautiful when the haori opens or accompanies movements.
📏 Dimensions
Sleeve to sleeve span: 124 cm
Height (shoulder to hem): 91 cm
Shoulder seam to shoulder seam width: 61 cm
Thanks to its loose and straight cut, this haori suits many body types. It is rather long for a women's haori.
In the photos, our female model, Mikan, is 1.58m tall.
Material
100% silk – silk exterior with Japanese brocade of silver metallic threads. Rinzu 綸子 style silk lining.
Condition
Very good vintage condition – beautiful overall appearance, fairly heavy fabric, and well-preserved decoration. Presence of a discreet stain on the upper left collar (invisible if worn with the collar not folded back) and a micro trace on the front of the right sleeve, both barely visible when worn (see photos).
Origin: Japan, discovered in the Osaka prefecture
🦝 Our Opinion
This haori is magnificent. We love the journey from Edo to Kyoto, its Tōkaidō landscapes in ukiyo-e style, its waves, and the silver reflections of the brocade. The salmon pink makes it soft and easy to wear, and it has a beautiful drape with its quality fabric. A KOGEDO piece of character and history!

Care instructions – Haori KOGEDO
Cleaning
- Dry clean only, by a professional.
For silk haori, choose a dry cleaner experienced in handling silk. - Do not wash with water (by hand or machine): traditional dyes may bleed, especially shibori fabrics.
After the port
- After wearing, it is recommended to simply air it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight.
Garment Steaming
- Gentle steam ironing is possible, without direct contact with the fabric.
- Generally, it is not recommended to use a traditional iron. Use a protective cloth between the haori and the iron if necessary.
- For textured haori, do not iron!
Odours
- We preferentially select haori that do not have a strong odor.
- In case of a light odor, a very fine and localized misting, from a distance, of a mild fabric spray suitable for delicate fibers, followed by air drying.
- Always perform a preliminary test on an inconspicuous area
Precautions
- Avoid rain and prolonged humidity.
- Avoid direct sun exposure.
- Avoid repeated rubbing and contact with light-colored textiles.
- Do not spray perfume directly onto the fabric.
