This vintage Haori 羽織 100% chirimen 縮緬 silk, a type of traditional Japanese kimono jacket, captivates with its rich abundant floral design, with an almost Liberty feel. The fabric features a superb palette mixing grey-blue, navy blue, golden ochre, and touches of coral red on a warm ivory background. The subtly crinkled chirimen silk offers a fluid and lively drape. A luminous and refined piece, typical of women's haori from the Shōwa era of the 1950s-60s.

    🔶 Outer pattern

The fabric reveals a very dense design composed of stylized flowers (花 – hana), foliage, and decorative elements inspired by traditional Japanese textiles (和柄 – wagara). The ensemble forms a rich and dynamic composition evoking a stylized textile landscape. The finely printed motifs intertwine in a harmony of soft and deep colors, characteristic of many haori produced during the Shōwa period (昭和) of the 1960s.

    Inner lining

The lining features a delicate ivory silk animated by large areas of pale yellow dye forming diffuse crosses. This very discreet decoration elegantly contrasts with the richness of the outer pattern.

    📏 Dimensions

Sleeve to sleeve span: 124 cm
Height (shoulder to hem): 78 cm

    Material

100% silk – traditional Japanese silk of the chirimen 縮緬 type, here very slightly crinkled, renowned for its fine texture and supple drape. This type of silk particularly enhances Japanese textile prints and brings depth and fluidity to the garment.

    Condition

Very good vintage condition – outer fabric in excellent condition with vibrant colors and a beautiful drape. The inner lining has a few discreet age spots, with no impact on wear.

Origin: Japan, found in Kanagawa Prefecture

A matching traditional haori himo (羽織紐) attachment is included, allowing the haori to be elegantly closed at the front.

    🦝 Our opinion

We love this haori for the incredible richness of its Japanese Liberty style pattern and the elegance of its color palette. The chirimen silk is very fluid and comfortable to wear, and the mix of blues, ochre, and red brings a lot of character. Worn with jeans, light or black clothing, it immediately becomes a strong and very Japanese piece. A charming and easy-to-wear haori.

    Care instructions – Haori KOGEDO

    Cleaning

    • Dry clean only, by a professional.
For silk haori, choose a dry cleaner experienced in handling silk.
    • Do not wash with water (by hand or machine): traditional dyes may bleed, especially shibori fabrics.

    After the port

    • After wearing, it is recommended to simply air it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight.

    Garment Steaming

    • Gentle steam ironing is possible, without direct contact with the fabric.
    • Generally, it is not recommended to use a traditional iron. Use a protective cloth between the haori and the iron if necessary.
    • For textured haori, do not iron!

    Odours

    • We preferentially select haori that do not have a strong odor.
    • In case of a light odor, a very fine and localized misting, from a distance, of a mild fabric spray suitable for delicate fibers, followed by air drying.
    • Always perform a preliminary test on an inconspicuous area

    Precautions

    • Avoid rain and prolonged humidity.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure.
    • Avoid repeated rubbing and contact with light-colored textiles.
    • Do not spray perfume directly onto the fabric.
