This vintage habutae 羽二重 silk haori 羽織, a traditional Japanese kimono jacket, is captivating with its deep red color and vermilion nuances, close to beni (紅), an emblematic shade in Japan. Its smooth surface, matte to very slightly satin, subtly reveals the weave and catches the light.

    🔶 Outer pattern

The design depicts a stylized seascape, where Japanese waves (nami 波) unfurl around rocky forms. A beautiful design that evokes the natural movement of water without overpowering the piece. Here the composition is free, as if sketched by hand, which gives the haori a more artistic and unique presence. On the back, there are parts of embroidered relief waves.

The habutae 羽二重 (habotai) silk, known for its softness and lightness, reinforces this sensation of fluidity and offers an elegant drape.

    Lining

Inside, the haori reveals a silk lining adorned with flower petals, in light and soft tones. This contrast with the more intense exterior brings an intimate and refined dimension, faithful to the Japanese aesthetic of hidden detail.

    📏 Dimensions

Span (sleeve to sleeve): 132 cm
Height (shoulder to bottom): 82 cm
Shoulder to shoulder width: 68 cm

Our model in the photos, Mikan, is 1.58m tall.

    Material

100% silk – exterior in habutae 羽二重 (habotai) silk, a smooth, soft, and slightly satin Japanese silk, appreciated for its comfort and elegance. Silk lining.

    Condition

Very good vintage condition – no imperfections to report, exterior fabric and lining in excellent condition.

Origin: Japan, piece found in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

The haori comes with its haori himo (羽織紐), offered as a gift, allowing for an elegant front closure.

    🦝 Our opinion

A very refined haori that prioritizes discretion over exuberance. We particularly love its red color, the wave patterns on the rocks, and the elegant embroidery on the back. A beautiful piece that is easy to integrate into a modern wardrobe, ideal for adding a subtle and authentic Japanese touch.

    Care instructions – Haori KOGEDO

    Cleaning

    • Dry clean only, by a professional.
For silk haori, choose a dry cleaner experienced in handling silk.
    • Do not wash with water (by hand or machine): traditional dyes may bleed, especially shibori fabrics.

    After the port

    • After wearing, it is recommended to simply air it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight.

    Garment Steaming

    • Gentle steam ironing is possible, without direct contact with the fabric.
    • Generally, it is not recommended to use a traditional iron. Use a protective cloth between the haori and the iron if necessary.
    • For textured haori, do not iron!

    Odours

    • We preferentially select haori that do not have a strong odor.
    • In case of a light odor, a very fine and localized misting, from a distance, of a mild fabric spray suitable for delicate fibers, followed by air drying.
    • Always perform a preliminary test on an inconspicuous area

    Precautions

    • Avoid rain and prolonged humidity.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure.
    • Avoid repeated rubbing and contact with light-colored textiles.
    • Do not spray perfume directly onto the fabric.
