    Exterior:

Vintage men's haori (羽織 / haori) made of light greyish-blue tsumugi (紬) silk, characterized by a textured weave typical of traditional Japanese silks. This silk, spun from cocoon fibers, has a slightly irregular and matte appearance that is highly sought after in Japanese textiles for its natural character and robustness. The dark threads visible in the weft bear witness to this authentic weave. A representative piece of men's haori from the Shōwa (昭和) era, embodying the discreet Japanese elegance called shibui (渋い).

    Lining:

The interior (羽裏 / haura) reveals a superb silk lining illustrated with a majestic eagle (鷲 / washi) perched on a pine branch (松 / matsu). The decoration is made using the Japanese yuzen (友禅) technique, a traditional silk dyeing method that allows detailed patterns to be created directly in the fabric. On this piece, the motif appears to be at least partially hand-painted, with subtle gradients and gilded highlights applied afterwards. A symbol of power, vigilance, and nobility, the eagle brings a strong visual presence to the whole. As often in men's haori, the decorative richness is revealed only on the inside.

    📏 Dimensions:

Wingspan (sleeve to sleeve): 138 cm
Height (shoulder to bottom): 88 cm

    Material:

    Exterior: tsumugi (紬) silk
    Lining: 100% silk

A matching traditional silk haori himo (羽織紐) tie is offered and allows the haori to be elegantly closed at the front.

    🎌 Origin:

Japan — vintage piece from the Shōwa era, found in Fukuoka Prefecture

    Condition:

    – Outer fabric in very good condition, healthy and strong textured tsumugi silk
    – Illustrated silk lining well preserved with visible colors and gilding
Small hole of about 3 mm on the back of the right sleeve (visible in photos)
    – Overall in very good vintage condition

    🦝 Our opinion:

We love this particularly elegant men's haori. The light grey-blue tsumugi (紬) exterior offers a sobriety typical of Japanese aesthetics, while the lining reveals a spectacular eagle dyed using the yuzen technique. This contrast between minimalist exterior and artistic interior is emblematic of Japanese men's haori. A strong and refined vintage piece, perfect for adding an authentic Japanese touch to a contemporary outfit.

    Care instructions – Haori KOGEDO

    Cleaning

    • Dry clean only, by a professional.
For silk haori, choose a dry cleaner experienced in handling silk.
    • Do not wash with water (by hand or machine): traditional dyes may bleed, especially shibori fabrics.

    After the port

    • After wearing, it is recommended to simply air it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight.

    Garment Steaming

    • Gentle steam ironing is possible, without direct contact with the fabric.
    • Generally, it is not recommended to use a traditional iron. Use a protective cloth between the haori and the iron if necessary.
    • For textured haori, do not iron!

    Odours

    • We preferentially select haori that do not have a strong odor.
    • In case of a light odor, a very fine and localized misting, from a distance, of a mild fabric spray suitable for delicate fibers, followed by air drying.
    • Always perform a preliminary test on an inconspicuous area

    Precautions

    • Avoid rain and prolonged humidity.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure.
    • Avoid repeated rubbing and contact with light-colored textiles.
    • Do not spray perfume directly onto the fabric.
