    This vintage Japanese silk kimono for men is an authentic nagagi, the long kimono worn as the main garment in men's attire, made in hitoe 単衣 style, meaning unlined to maintain lightness and fluidity. Its fine, very fluid, and shiny natural silk, in midnight blue, is decorated with small geometric igeta 井桁 patterns made using kasuri 絣 technique.

    Outer Patterns

    The fabric features a scattering of small igeta patterns, drawn in light blue on a dark background with shifting reflections.

    Their discreet repetition gives the kimono an elegant rhythm, typical of informal Japanese men's fabrics.

    Kasuri 絣 is a weaving technique in which certain threads are dyed before weaving. The slight misalignment of the threads produces the characteristic contours of the pattern and gives the textile subtle depth.

    The igeta 井桁 pattern, inspired by the traditional structure surrounding Japanese wells, forms small geometric crosses here.

    The midnight blue silk has a luminosity, particularly visible when the fabric moves and catches the light.

    Inner Construction

    This hitoe 単衣 kimono is generally unlined. It features traditional off-white cotton reinforcements with patterns and decorations at the upper back and hip level.

    These pieces protect stressed areas while maintaining the garment's lightness and suppleness.

    Height from shoulder to bottom: approx. 145 cm
    Shoulder to shoulder width: approx. 63 cm
    The straight cut of the nagagi allows for traditional wear or a contemporary interpretation.

    Our model, Tôma, in the worn photo, is 1m71 tall. This kimono will fit people between 1m68 and 1m80 with a slender or average build.

    The kaku obi visible in the worn photo is not included but may be available upon request. Please contact us.

    Material

    Fine natural silk, tsumugi type, possibly Oshima tsumugi, not certain; interior reinforcements in cotton.

    Condition

    Very good vintage condition.
    The silk remains fluid, supple, and shiny.
    Two small snags are present in the middle back and on the left sleeve and are visible in the photos. There are very slight signs of wear on the inner collar lining. These marks remain discreet and consistent with the age of the piece.

    Care instructions – Haori KOGEDO

    Cleaning

    • Dry clean only, by a professional.
      For silk haori, choose a dry cleaner experienced in handling silk.
    • Do not wash with water (by hand or machine): traditional dyes may bleed, especially shibori fabrics.

    After the port

    • After wearing, it is recommended to simply air it on a hanger, away from direct sunlight.

    Garment Steaming

    • Gentle steam ironing is possible, without direct contact with the fabric.
    • Generally, it is not recommended to use a traditional iron. Use a protective cloth between the haori and the iron if necessary.
    • For textured haori, do not iron!

    Odours

    • We preferentially select haori that do not have a strong odor.
    • In case of a light odor, a very fine and localized misting, from a distance, of a mild fabric spray suitable for delicate fibers, followed by air drying.
    • Always perform a preliminary test on an inconspicuous area

    Precautions

    • Avoid rain and prolonged humidity.
    • Avoid direct sun exposure.
    • Avoid repeated rubbing and contact with light-colored textiles.
    • Do not spray perfume directly onto the fabric.
