The artisan: Suzuki Toshiyuki (鈴木俊幸, 1955–)
Suzuki Toshiyuki was born in Naruko in 1955, the eldest son of Suzuki Unkichi, master of the Naruko school, and Suzuki Hanae, responsible for painting the kokeshi in the family workshop.
He began his apprenticeship in woodturning in 1972 with his father, before producing his own kokeshi in accordance with the Naruko tradition, while exploring more structured forms, such as models inspired by the Ejiko style.
🌸 Details:
This kokeshi adopts a stacked two-tiered form inspired by Ejiko models, originally evoking the protective cradles for children, combined with painting and a face faithful to the classics of the Naruko style.
🦝 We love:
A super original Kokeshi, not often seen, yet made by a master of the very traditional Naruko style.
