This rare artisanal kokeshi doll is the work of Iwamoto Yoshizō (岩本 芳蔵), master of the Nakanosawa school and son of Iwamoto Zenkichi, who founded this style in the 1920s. It was handmade in Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture.

Born in 1901, Yoshizō began making kokeshi dolls around 1935, following in his father's footsteps. He developed a style unique to the Nakanosawa school, characterized by firm lines and a sober yet elegant aesthetic. He passed away in 1972, leaving behind a body of work marked by great stylistic coherence.

    🦝 Our Opinion:

This kokeshi by master Iwamoto perfectly embodies the elegance and originality of the Nakanosawa style. The slight tilt of its head adds a touch of expressiveness and uniqueness. We always adore the wide eyes and open nostrils of the Nakanosawa dolls! Perfect for collectors of authentic kokeshi.
