    This elegant handcrafted Dento Kokeshi is the work of Mamoru Izu (伊豆護), a member of the famous artisan family from the Yamagata region, particularly active around Ginzan Onsen, a picturesque hot spring resort. Heir to the Naruko style, Mamoru Izu has given it a personal and local expression, recognizable by the delicacy of the face and the generously painted flowers.

    This Naruko sub-style is sometimes referred to by collectors as "Kokeshi Oshin", in reference to the famous Japanese drama Oshin (1980s), whose rural and touching aesthetic evokes the same era and regions of Tōhoku.
