    This handcrafted kokeshi represents a Daruma , a Japanese symbol of perseverance and success, often given to encourage a wish or project. It is hand-painted in an expressive and bold style , with a powerful face, strong eyebrows and energetically drawn black lines.
    The kanji painted on the top of the head is 「幸」( sachi ) , which means “happiness” , reinforcing the role of this piece as a talisman of good fortune.
