    Description:

    Traditional Kokeshi from the Yamagata school with a slender and harmonious form.
    The finely painted face presents the typical soft and serene expression.

    The body is decorated with a hand-painted red floral pattern, enhanced with dark foliage and framed by red and black rings in the Yamagata style.
    The visible woodworking beneath the paint testifies to careful turning and a beautiful balance of proportions. Its slightly bottle shape is original.

    About the artisan — Kobayashi Chujiro (1932–1999)

    Kobayashi Chujiro was a traditional kokeshi artisan from the Yamagata lineage.
    Trained in woodworking at a very young age by his father Kobayashi Seizo, he began producing traditional kokeshi from 1969, after thoroughly studying ancient models of this lineage. He passed away in 1999 at the age of 68.

    His work is recognized for the delicacy of its forms, the accuracy of its colors, and its respect for traditional Yamagata styles.
