This handcrafted kokeshi is the work of Sato Yoshiki (佐藤佳樹), a master kijiya of the Tsugaru-kei school, son of Sato Zenji (佐藤善二), one of the greatest names in this tradition. He practiced in the city of Hirosaki, in the north of Aomori Prefecture.

Born in 1953, Yoshiki began turning wood in his father's workshop in 1978. He developed an expressive style, marked by large floral motifs and round faces with clear lines, in the continuity of his father's work. He passed away in 2007, leaving behind a vibrant, joyful body of work perfectly representative of the Tsugaru school.

    🦝 Our opinion:

This large kokeshi by Yoshiki captivates with the harmony of its colors and the beauty of its camellia motif. The Tsugaru touch is immediately recognizable: dynamic lines, a slender silhouette, and that soft face with an enigmatic expression. An ideal piece for a collection or as a gift!
