Elegant Japanese period set昭和 ( Shōwa ) consisting of a traditional comb櫛 (Kushi) and a matching round hairpin簪 (Kanzashi) , made of bright red lacquered wood (urushi-nuri 漆塗り) and hand-decorated with gilt maki-e 蒔絵patterns.

The comb features a rich composition evoking classical elegance:菊 (kiku) – the imperial chrysanthemum, symbol of longevity –,梅 (ume) – the plum blossom heralding spring –, and a御所車 (gosho-guruma) , a ceremonial chariot used at the imperial court.

The maru-gata (round) pin is decorated with a large orange, gold and green kiku , enhanced with finely painted foliage.
On the reverse, a delicate motif of竹 (take) , bamboo, a symbol of strength and flexibility, discreetly completes the ensemble.

    Features :

    📅 Period : Shōwa ( 1926–1989) – estimated 1950s–70s
    🧵 Material : Red lacquered wood ( urushi )
    🎨 Reasons :
    (kiku) – Chrysanthemum, imperial emblem
    (ume) – Plum blossom, renewal
御所車 (gosho-guruma) – Noble ceremonial chariot
(take) – Bamboo, strength and luck

    📏 Dimensions :
    Kushi comb: 9.5 × 5 cm
    • Kanzashi: diameter 3.5 cm – length 10 cm

📸 Condition : Vintage, good overall condition. Note: a small snag on the tip of the pin head (round) has removed 4mm of lacquer (visible in the last photo). Does not detract from the overall charm of this set.

    🦝 Our opinion:

At KOGEDO , we particularly love this set for its balance between brilliance and restraint. The traditional floral decorations, combined with the glossy red lacquer, make it a jewel in its own right. A refined piece, to collect, display, or wear with a vintage haori —or a contemporary creation from Atelier Kogedo.
