    Work of master artisan Tsuji Kōseki (辻晃石)

    It was hand-carved by master men-ushi (Nô mask artisan) Tsuji Kōseki, an artisan renowned for his mastery of classic Nô techniques. Active during the Shōwa era, he left behind a body of work marked by refinement: his masks, carved from natural wood and decorated according to traditional methods (gofun, mineral pigments), feature a discreet lacquered finish that gives depth and brilliance to the polychromy.

    Theatrical expression and spirituality

    This Dōji mask offers a soft, subtly melancholic expression, with slightly drooping eyes, a fine mouth, and delicately carved reliefs. The hair painted on the forehead and the slight deliberate asymmetry reflect the aesthetic sensibility of Nô. The inside of the mask is raw and carefully polished, bearing the artisan's engraved signature.

    In Nô theater, Dōji represents celestial children, young monks, or mystical beings. This character acts as a bridge between the visible and invisible, between the human and the divine, expressing grace, purity, and mystery.
