    This natsume (棗) in black lacquer embodies discreet elegance and harmonious forms. Designed to hold matcha (抹茶) — powdered green tea — it combines functionality and decorative beauty.

    Its refined decoration highlights two flowers deeply rooted in Japanese culture:

    The paulownia (桐 kiri), here stylized as bold red leaves, is an ancient symbol of nobility and benevolent power. Long used by the imperial family, it was later adopted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi (豊臣秀吉), an emblematic figure in the unification of Japan in the 16th century.

    Alongside it, the chrysanthemum (菊 kiku), painted in delicate gold, evokes longevity, inner calm and has been associated with the Emperor of Japan for centuries.

    The lid, adorned with green kiri leaves and small white kiku, completes the ensemble in a subtle balance of forms and symbols.

    The decoration combines a regular application of large motifs with painted highlights on certain details that have a slight relief perceptible to the touch. This mixed technique, common in Japan in the mid-20th century, combines graphic precision and decorative finesse.
