The kaku obi 角帯 is a traditional Japanese belt for men, narrower and quite rigid. It is worn with a yukata 浴衣, a men's kimono, or casual Japanese attire. Its straight and structured shape allows for a neat tie, often placed at the back, with a sober, elegant, and very Japanese look. This purple cotton one perfectly complements a summer yukata or a men's kimono coordination.

Pattern
This kaku obi features the famous Hakata kenjō 博多献上 pattern, a classic of Japanese obis. This design is recognizable by its regular vertical stripes, fine ecru lines, and central geometric motifs. Traditionally, the kenjō-gara 献上柄 incorporates shapes inspired by Buddhist objects, notably the dokko 独鈷, a vajra-shaped symbol, and the hanazara 華皿, a stylized floral motif. The result is both very graphic, sober, and immediately identifiable for Japanese textile enthusiasts.
100% cotton, supple and structured
Made of cotton, this obi offers a pleasant texture, with enough hold to form a beautiful knot without being too rigid. The ribbed weave adds texture to the fabric, while the contrast between deep purple and white motifs brings understated elegance. It is an easy piece to pair with a light, blue, grey, black, or indigo-patterned yukata.
🦝 Our opinion:
A classic and effective men's obi! Deep color, traditional Hakata kenjō pattern, beautiful cotton texture, and easy-to-wear style. It has that sober and graphic appeal that we particularly love about kaku obi. Perfect for completing a yukata or a kimono!
