Duo of handcrafted Japanese cups, fashioned in the traditional Shino-yaki (志野焼) style, famous for its thick white feldspathic glaze, granular textures, and reddish-brown patterns (緋色, hiiro) that naturally rise to the surface.

    Characteristics

    • Origin: Tajimi (Gifu Prefecture)
    • Estimated Period: 1980 (Shōwa 55) – commemoration of local telephony
    • Style: Shino-yaki (志野焼)
    • Material: Glazed stoneware
    • Finish: White feldspathic glaze, reddish-brown effects (hiiro 緋色)
    • Condition: Vintage, in excellent condition. Original condition with box and brochure.
    • Dimensions:
      • Cup 1: height ~9.5 cm; Ø ~7 cm
      • Cup 2: height ~8 cm; Ø ~6.5 cm

Made in Tajimi in the 1980s, these cups bear an inscription under their base, indicating that they were made in 1980 (Shōwa 55 era) to commemorate the modernization of telecommunications in the region. A rarity steeped in local history.

Their raw and natural appearance, with irregular shapes and intentionally imperfect texture, embodies the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi.

The set comes with its calligraphed paulownia wood box (kiribako 桐箱) and an original workshop brochure, sealed with the artisan's red stamp (hanko). This brochure highlights the origins of Shino, its glaze evoking snow, its reddish hues reminiscent of yuzu skin, and the rustic vitality that characterizes this ceramic.

    Artisan

Red seal of the workshop visible on the brochure and the original box, guaranteeing the authenticity of the craftsmanship and the local roots in Tajimi's ceramic tradition.

    🦝 Our opinion:

A sober, rustic, and authentic duo, truly embracing traditional Japanese craftsmanship. These cups embody all the beauty of Shino-yaki: mineral whiteness, natural textures, historical roots. We love this style!
