This crackled glazed ceramic sake carafe is a typical piece of the Kutani-yaki style, recognizable by its vibrant palette, clean lines, and refined decorative scenes. It depicts a gosho-guruma (Japanese imperial carriage), surrounded by flowering plum branches and court nobles in traditional attire from the Heian era (794-1185), a flourishing period for Japanese arts, poetry, and court life.

Its glaze features beautiful natural crackling (kan'nyū 貫入), formed over time, which adds visual depth and a warm patina to the object. These details reveal the passage of years, testifying to respectful use and carefully preserved craftsmanship.

On the underside, the piece bears the red mark Kutani 九谷, indicating its origin and its connection to an ancient ceramic tradition, emblematic of the Ishikawa region.

🦝 Our opinion: A tokkuri that is both decorative and rich in history. Its patina and decoration make it a beautiful object, which can be used as a sake carafe or as a refined decorative element on a shelf.
