    ✨ Description

    This Japanese tokkuri (徳利), a natural terracotta sake bottle, is a work by Kamiya Kiun (神谷紀雲), master of the Tonoyama kiln (殿山窯).
    Made using the yakishime technique — wood-fired without glaze — it expresses the purity of the earth and the power of fire.
    The hues range from reddish brown to olive green, enlivened by deposits of vitrified ash (bidoro), witnesses to the passage of flame.

    The raw texture and natural nuances evoke the Shigaraki-yaki style, with accents close to Bizen-yaki: rustic, lively pottery, imbued with wabi-sabi.

    👤 The artisan: Kamiya Kiun (神谷紀雲)

    Born in Masuda, Kinomoto, Nagahama in Shiga prefecture — cradle of the famous Shigaraki-yaki —, Kamiya Kiun trained in the tradition of mingei, Japanese folk craft.
    Wishing to follow his own path, he founded his kiln Tonoyama-gama (殿山窯), where he developed a personal style centered on bare earth and natural firing.
    The document accompanying this piece, dated 1954 (Shōwa 29), evokes his desire to “live as close as possible to the fire” and to “let the richness of the earth speak.”
    This tokkuri embodies the strength and simplicity of this philosophy: sincere pottery, born of gesture and fire.

    📦 Tomobako (original box)

    Original wooden box (tomobako), calligraphed 焼締 徳利 (yakishime tokkuri), signed 紀雲 (Kiun) and sealed in red.
    It contains the workshop document presenting the vision of the Tonoyama kiln and guaranteeing the authenticity of the piece.
