    📖 Description

    This wrought iron tsuba, probably from a Shoami workshop of the late Edo period (1800–1860), elegantly illustrates late Japanese aesthetic sensibility. Its mokkō-gata shape is soft and balanced.

    The decoration is remarkable:
    stylized waves run along the entire border, while small, finely engraved boats appear to move with the sea. The ten-zōgan inlays provide subtle glints, evoking sea foam or raindrops. This maritime scene, classic in Japanese art, symbolizes protection, journey, resilience, and the warrior's soul.

    The ensemble recalls the style of ukiyo-e prints and creates a subtle yet asserted echo of the visual power of Hokusai's The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

    The gentle wear around the nakago-ana attests to an original mounting, confirming that this is not a decorative piece, but an authentic sword element worn by a samurai of the late Edo era.
